METROPLEX MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION

PUBLICATION CONTEST

Local and State Deadlines: Click here to view calendar.

What is the Publication Contest?

A contest in which you write about different subjects and where you can become a published author and win MONEY!

How do I find out about the subjects?

Listed below are two topics for each age group. Select the topic that interests you the most and begin to find out all you can about that topic. The library and your teacher’s reference books often have everything you need--and adding a discography means you get to listen to music!

But there’s so much on each subject, how do I get the information to fit the space requirements? The topics cover a lot of ground. You have to do what all good magazine writers do--try to find special ideas you want to convey about the topic you chose.

Who is going to read the article? The article should be written so that others your age will read them. Don’t use words you don’t understand. Make the subject sound interesting.

What format should I use?

All articles should be typed (by parent, teacher or student) for ease of judging. Double space. Use a computer if possible. Revisions are so much easier. And always remember to write down your sources for your bibliography and a discography.

AWARDS

LOCAL: Participation certificate and critique.

STATE: Participation certificate and cash awards for Winners.  Winners articles are published in the Texas Music Teachers Magazine.  Winners and Outstandings receive a booklet with their articles included.
